Cat Purrs Through Pain of Gunshot Wounds, Is Expected to Recover

Bullet, is the perfect name for this cat, who was found wounded in a mobile home park in Fargo, North Dakota by Gail Ventzke. She could tell he had a leg injury of some kind by the way he was limping and not wanting to put weight on it, but this didn’t stop him from purring when Gail approached him on April 5.Ventzke says that despite his apparent injuries and pain, he was very sweet and just a nice cat.

Gail called The Cat’s Cradle Shelter when she realized the cat was injured. The Cat’s Cradle Shelter is no stranger to getting calls from the mobile home park manager, stating that they often step in and try to help abandoned cats in the area, find new homes. This particular cat, however, was more than abandoned; he had been shot. Bullet was taken to Red Barn Veterinarian Hospital where he was treated for four wounds from what appeared to be, two bullets.

Dr. Charly Stansbery, DVM had to perform surgery on Bullet to remove the bone fragments near his elbow and his wrist, causing him great pain and an infection. Dr. Stansbery says that Bullet did marvelous through the surgery and was a real trooper. After the surgery, Bullet was put into isolation due to lesions found on his skin that are suspected to be ringworm.

Bullet’s caretakers at the Red Barn Veterinary Hospital all agree that he is one sweet cat with a great disposition. He’s tolerating his care and dressing changes like a real gentleman and seems so grateful for help. The caretakers have said that it is almost as if Bullet knows everyone is trying to help him so he does not mind the medical attention he’s getting.

Bullet is expected to make a full recovery, however, Bullet will likely be left with gait issues and down the road, he may have issues with arthritis. Despite all he’s been through, the doctor says that this is not that bad of a scenario. It could have been much worse. Although he won’t be able to be adopted out for sometime, once he is well and healed, the shelter will work to try to find a forever home for this brave little cat. Hopefully by getting his story out, someone will see the little guy and make an inquiry to adopting him and wanting to give him a loving home.
