When you think of cats and water, you think of two things that do not mix well at all. That is why it was shocking to see a cat in the Dublin River Liffey on Thursday. It isn’t clear how the cat ended up in the river, however, when it was seen struggling in the water, people took notice, and one man became determined to save it. He apparently had an idea, and it was a good one, because it ended up saving this little guy’s life.
The black and white cat, who is now safe, was flailing in the water and a crowd started to ensue, around the activity. One man who was close by, said he was standing on the opposite side of the river when he saw all the commotion. He watched as a man sitting on the wall across the way, began to lower a life ring down into the water. The spectator videoed the ordeal and wasn’t sure what the rescuer was trying to lift out of the water, but after the ring began to raise up to safety, he said he could tell it was a cat clinging on to the life ring.
The cat amazed everyone around, by the fact that it was able to figure out what to do with the ring. When the life ring got down close enough, the smart little feline grabbed on to the ring and hung on tight all the way to the top of the wall, where the rescuer lifted him off. It was if he knew exactly what he needed to do to free himself from the drowning waters. Once he was evacuated safely, the man held him up in the air to show the spectators that had been anxiously awaiting the outcome, that he was safe. When he did, the crowd broke out into applause and cheers.
The Dublin Edge reported that there was another cat incident that required assistance with the Dublin River Liffey, back in March. There’s not really an answer as to how the cats got into the river, but both of the cats were able to get out safely. The SPCA posted of picture of the wet feline who did not appear too happy, and they stated that they were sure it probably wasn’t this little feline’s “purrrr-oudest” moment.
