It’s St. Patrick’s Day, which means a lot of us are celebrating our Irish – or lack of Irish – background with a nice, cold beverage. We are also celebrating our middle daughter’s fifth birthday today, if anyone is so inclined to celebrate the fact that we’ve managed to keep her safe, happy and relatively healthy for the past five years despite her daredevil tendencies and her lack of fear (Go us!). It’s also a beautiful day for a New York City tabby cat by the name of Shamrock. This little three-legged kitten is celebrating being the proud new owner of a loving home, a human who adores her and a lot of kitty friends to call her own. Shamrock’s life has not always been worth celebrating. She was found last fall limping across a busy street, and the stranger who found her took her to a nearby vet in hopes of saving this darling cat’s life.
Her injuries were going to kill her; and would have if she hadn’t found help when she did. The little kitten had a wound so deep on one leg that it exposed her tissues and muscles, and the only way to save her life was to amputate the leg. Additionally, she had bones in her stomach, which is not uncommon when a cat scavenges for food in the trash can on a regular basis. One of the animal techs working on this sweet cat just could not help falling in love with her. Mercy Alvarado was positive that she would take this cat home and love her, and she did. Now they are both happy, and it’s a day worth celebrating for all.
