Magic the Hiking cat is Seattle’s Rising Social Media Star

Erik and Erica were not really in the market to get a pet, Magic happened to pop-up on their Instagram page and they couldn’t say no. They adopted the one year old cat and it has been one adventure after another, living in Seattle with Magic, ever since.

Erik and Erica recognized Magic’s curious tendencies right away. He loved to be outdoors, which they soon learned when they started taking him to parks on a harness. And since his owners loved to be outdoors too, they decided to include Magic in their own adventures of hiking, camping and canoeing. Moving beyond parks, Erik and Erica began bringing Magic on hikes, locally, which he seemed to instantly love right away. When Magic’s owners saw how much he liked to take adventures, they decided it had to be documented, and so, Magic gained his own Instagram account to document his travels and he instantly become a star overnight. Magic has tons of followers, granted many of them are cats, but Erik and Erica love sharing Magic’s adventures on social media.

For Erik and Erica, it was an adjustment to learn to walk a cat, especially on hiking trails and other places where the type of animal you most likely see, is a dog on a leash. They get lots of looks and plenty of comments, which they expected. The majority of people think it is amazing that a cat would love to hike and camp, be around water and simply go wherever its owner goes. People have even commented how they wish they could do the same with their cat.

Magic has been all over the great Northwest now, and has seen and done things that most humans have not. He has hiked at Mount Baker and camped at Moran State Park, just to name a few of his furry travels. Erik and Erica realize how unusual it is to see a cat in a raincoat or sweater walking the trails on a harness, but they have no intentions of ever denying Magic his curious nature and desire to investigate his world. He may get a little timid at times out in nature, but they give him his time to feel out the situation and take the lead when he’s ready.
