Meet the Popular Cat Attracting Tourists in a Small Scottish Town

Some cats are just full of personality and love to be around people. One cat that is attracting a big a fan base, is located in Scotland and is attracting people from all over the world.

The cat is a Maine Coon and goes by the name of Parsley. He has a Facebook page and has about 7,000 fans from everywhere imaginable , from Argentina, to Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Mexico, and of course, the good ol’ USA. Not only does he have his own social media sites, but he has his own line of merchandise, such as coasters, key-rings, prints, and more, and all of these items of the three-year old’s merchandise, can be found in the local gift shop in their hometown, which is home to about 8.500 people.

Parsley has become so popular, in fact, that many people are actually scheduling trips to his hometown, just to see him. They’re coming from Australia, the US, Canada and others. According to his owner, “People might think, ‘Nobody does that just to see a cat,’ but they do. It is amazing the number of people who come to see him,” she said. “I put a status on his Facebook page asking people to comment if they had come to see him and say where they came from.”

As a matter-of-fact, Parsley’s owner, Fiona, said, “People were saying their sole reason for coming if not to Oban, even to Scotland, was because they were going to fit in a visit to Parsley.” She was worried that people might be disappointed when they actually got there, going all that way to see – a cat. Because at the end of the day, that is all he is, a cat. But the people are always very delighted to see him, once they do. And they say that he is what made their whole holiday.

Fiona said that Parsley is quite a handful as he loves to wander off on a regular basis and has been doing so since he was about eight months old. She ended up having to put a GPS tracker on him to keep up with his whereabouts.

Fiona has said that she often sets up appointments for people to meet Parsley at his favorite local Pub, The Balmoral Hotel. She has also found that many people are now starting to contact her about where to stay when they come to visit, getting her recommendations.

Something else that Parsley does that amazes people, is volunteering at the town’s local soup kitchen, Hope Kitchen, a place where he hosts his own “cat café.” And because of his growing popularity, he has now attracted visitors from allover the Scotland area, from Aberdeen to Glasgow. Fiona has said that although Parsley does wander off on a regular basis, the one thing he never does, is leave his hometown. She knows he is around, but she has kind of given up on his whereabouts as he wanders from bar to bar, an business to business.

Fiona said: “He has been in lots of different shops, beauty salons, hairdressers, the local leisure centre, fish and chip shops, he’s even been to the town’s distillery – and he was pictured on the piano at a nearby music studio.” Fiona went on to describe finding him at a neighbor’s party, on their flat, as well as he has definitely made his rounds to the many different pubs and hotels in the local area.

“I’ve had to send a taxi there to pick him up when I wasn’t able to go and collect him myself,” Fiona explained. “He even went to two church services one Sunday morning.”

His average travels take him on about a three to four mile journey each day, but once, he made a 10k, which was his a record for him.

Some cats have what it takes to become social media stars and even beyond. Parsley has seemingly hit that mark, and above. He has become so popular that he is quickly becoming a world-wide star.
