Cats are often seen as so agile, young and energetic, so it’s hard to believe that they may need any sort of medical care if they’re healthy and young. But just like their human counterparts, they can benefit from the services of a chiropractor. Yes, you read that right: a chiropractor. Chiropractic care can be a touchy issue to some in terms of the medical field. Chiropractic care is a holistic branch of health care that specializes in the health of the spine and joints of the body without the use of drugs or surgery. Chiropractors can perform adjustments to restore the proper alignment of spine and joints, allowing the body to function better and improve the quality of life. Animal chiropractic is becoming more prevalent, especially in the horse and dog communities, but cats can definitely reap the benefits that come along with it as well.
Could your cat benefit from chiropractic care? Here are some symptoms your cat may show that point to yes:
• Stretching excessively after getting up
• Moving slowly up or down the stairs
• Walking stiff
• The inability to easily jump up on the couch or bed
• Limping on one leg or dragging their toes
• The inability to get into their litter box
• Discomfort and dislike of petting or brushing of its back end
• Flinching when touched
• Grinding of teeth
• Decreased grooming
A lot of these signs may indicate a deeper health issue, so please see your veterinarian and have your cat evaluated. If your vet is a certified animal chiropractor, they can check out your cat’s alignment; if not, you will most probably need to get a referral to a vet that is or an animal chiropractor. Give it a shot – animal chiropractic can be a big help in the wellness of your pet!
