Cat Finds Home after Journey Across Nearly All of France

Black and white cat

A cat’s wonderful story started  in January 2013. His name is Cookie and vanished without a trace. It happened when his owner Dan Bouchery moved to Grasse for three months because of her job, along with her cat. Staying in a hotel wasn’t easy especially for Cookie because he wasn’t allowed to hang around outside their room. In order to lessen the boredom of her beloved feline, Bouchery let her cat out into the hotel garden several times.  But on March 7, 2013 the cat disappeared mysteriously.

Bouchery started to search the whole town for Cookie. She even put up posters and tried to place an ad in the local paper but no luck. When her work was finished in Grasse she went home to Normandy without her beloved pet.

After almost a year and a half of living life without Cookie, Bouchery got an unexpected call from a vet in Orbec, a town located near Beaumont-en-Auge where she lived. The vet successfully identified Cookie through its microchip. But how did Cookie ended up at the vet? Apparently, a woman in Orbec found a dirty, exhausted and skinny cat. The woman assumed that it was a stray cat and she decided to give him a home for three months. She took Cookie to the vet to get it checked for fleas. And that’s how the vet knew that the woman is not the original owner of the cat and talked to her to return Cookie.

At first, the woman refused to return the cat to Bouchery. But after talking to the cops she decided to return the animal back to his rightful owner. At long last Bouchery and Cookie reunited in October 14, 2014. Nobody knows how Cookie found its way back home. Can you imagine taking a 1,200 kilometer journey on foot and alone? Cookie’s long journey across France was so amazing. I can’t imagine how tiring and hard his journey was. I think that determination and love for his owner encouraged this cat to find his way back. Both Cookie and Boucher are very lucky to end up together again after almost a year and a half. Story like this puts a smile on my face.
