We have all read stories of firefighters saving cats from a tree. This very common event seems to happen in just about every area of the country. But the rescue in this next story is a little different than we are used too.
A 14 year old Bakersfield California boy noticed a feline trapped high in a tree. With no one around to help the poor animal, the boy decided to take matters into his own hands and try to rescue the cat.
As the boy climbed the tree, the cat seemed to get higher and higher up. The brave teen climb 40 feet up the pine tree, in hopes that the cat would allow him to help him down.
But the boy realized he had gone too far up and could not get down. This really put the teen in a bad place and he became afraid for his own life. But luckily help would not be far away.
Someone who had seen the teen climb the tree realized that the boy could not get down by himself and quickly called 911. The local fire department was dispatched and two engines along with a battalion commander arrived at the scene.
12 firefighters were called out and with the help of a ladder truck the boy was safely lower to the ground. But before they allowed the boy to climb down, a safety harness was placed around him. This took about an hour from start to finish.
After the teen was safely on the ground, the firefighters had to go back up and get the cat. One brave firefighter went up and got the cat from the tree, using the same ladder truck. This rescue really drew a lot of attention and many people who live in the neighborhood came out to see the event.
No one was harmed in the incident and both the boy and the cat are now safe at home resting. Thanks to the bravery of the firefighters this story had a very happy ending.
So if you see a cat stuck in a tree, don’t try to rescue it yourself and call the fire department for assistance.
