Young kids are susceptible to bullies anywhere they go, and for Ethan Felton, this holds true. The five-year-old boy was playing with his two-year-old baby brother Ashton when a group of bullies approached him and started trouble. That’s when the family’s heroic cat, Smudge, came flying out and jumped on the the bullies – talk about a cat fight!
According to the boys’ mother Sarah, who was watching the duo, her two boys had been playing in the front garden when three boys older and taller than Ethan walked over to their gate and started to bother the boy.
“I heard them shout Ethan’s name twice but he ignored them and just put his head back down and kept playing with Ashton,” Sarah explained. “But then they shouted him again and then one of the boys got in Ethan’s face and said, ‘Oi! Why are you ignoring me?’ and pushed him over.”
That is when, she said, she rushed outside only to witness Smudge flying out from under their vehicle and jumped on one of the boys’ chest. The boy was so shocked and probably very embarrassed, so he stumbled backwards and ended up in tears. Smudge’s family has been with the feline for over three years, but they had never seen this alter ego emerge from their cat. He had never done anything quite like that before and continues to be the boy’s bodyguard, sleeping outside of Ethan’s bedroom since the incident.
“I actually feel so much safer knowing Smudge is around after seeing him defend him like that,” Sarah said. “He is a big part of the family and he is more of a brother to the boys than a cat.”
