Kitten Found in Pickup Truck Engine Gets a Forever Home

It’s a common occurrence for kittens to accidentally get stuck in a car engine – one that could end up with some tragic consequences, like getting badly injured or, in some cases, even getting killed. One kitten in New York was fortunate enough to be found in the engine of a pickup truck and rescued before anything could happen to it. Since then, the lucky kitten has become a mascot to its rescuer’s shop. It all started when a stray kitten ended up hitching a ride on a GMC Sierra truck engine that gets regularly serviced at the Knight Automotive in New York. When service technician Rob Howard popped open the hood of the car to take a look at the engine, he got quite the surprise in the form of an adorable kitten just sitting there.

“It was kind of a little bit scared so it was meowing and hissing at me. At that point it jumped down to the skid shield underneath the fan,” Howard said.

“I come around to the side of the truck, got underneath the truck and found it sat on top of the transmission. Reached up to grab it, pulled it out some, and then when it got on the ground it ran across the parking lot.”

It turns out that the feline came to the right place, as the dealership’s owner, Richard Knight is a huge cat lover who feeds the stray cats in the neighborhood as well as works with animal shelters to help find the felines some homes. Knight believes that the cat ended up in the engine because it was cold and wanted to stay in a warm place, as evidenced by its only injury: a slight burn that was found on its paw. The kitty was taken to the vet where he got his first round of shots and is found to be quite healthy. The 9-week-old yellow male kitten has been named Sierra, after the GMC truck he was found in.

Ever the cat enthusiast, Knight also actually has two prior felines that act as mascots for the dealership. Since rescuing the cat from the pickup, Knight has adopted the feline as a third dealership mascot. The little cats are best known for greeting the dealership’s customers at the door, which is the perfect touch for Knight’s space.
