Talk about a gift from above. Exactly one month before Erin was to marry her cat-allergic husband, she found a cat – who she later named Maggie – outside of her church during a horrible thunderstorm. Power lines across from the church were tangled in the trees and sparks were flying everywhere because of them, so she and her fiancé sat in the car watching as the power lines just blew themselves apart. It was at that moment that they saw the absolute tiniest kitten Erin had ever seen in her life run up the church steps to get away from a dog and the storm. Erin just knew that she had to save her.
In the midst of the storm she ran to the church and wrapped the poor feline up in her jacket. The next day she took the rescue cat to the vet and she weighed in at whopping 1.7 pounds at about 8 weeks old. The kitten was so malnourished that all the vet could do was give it flea and worm medicine and told Erin to feed her good then come back in a few weeks. At the time, she was so skinny you could count her ribs and see her spine, but she eventually found the food bowl and made great progress. Now, 10 months later, Maggie is at a whopping 12.2 pounds and 18 inches long. Understandably, however, the kitty still hasn’t gotten over her fear of thunderstorms or large dogs.
It’s been about a year now and Erin just can’t think of life before Maggie. They are as close as can be and she credits it all up to that fateful day at church.
