RSPCA Mistakenly Kills Missing Cat Before Owner Arrives to Pick Her Up

When Sandra Hall’s beloved tabby cat went missing recently, she was beside herself. Her happy cat had wandered off at some point and she began searching for the cat immediately. The cat’s name is Kitty, an orange tabby she’d had for some time. When she was looking for her cat, she made it a point to notify shelters and vets so that they would know to scan the cat for a chip since she does have one. Fortunately, this means that once the cat is found and brought in by a citizen or rescue, the cat will be scanned and Hall notified. She was quite relieved when she received a call less than a day later saying her cat had been found and that she was waiting on her owner to pick her up.

That was a happy moment for Hall. As she and her husband were preparing to pick up their cat the following morning, however, they received bad news. The RSPCA would not call them back when they called and called to schedule their appointment to pick up their cat. They left numerous messages and finally decided in a fit of anger and frustration to simply email the director. Once the email was sent, there was a knock on their door and the RSPCA was there to tell them that they’d mistakenly euthanized her cat. The vet that had the cat thought it was too sick to live after it was found and believed to be a stray, so they made the executive decision to put the cat down despite the fact that an owner had already been notified and was on her way. It was a gross misstep on behalf of all involved, and Sandra Hall is not happy. At the moment, we don’t know what her course of further action might be.
