It’s not very often that you see a cat playing “cat and mouse” with none other than a fox. However, Syoma is a fearless cat who has befriends this fox in the East of Russia. What does Syoma do exactly? His day job is to keep the mice at bay in houses at an entry post to the magnificent Kronotsky Nature Reserve in the volcanic Kamchatka peninsula.
And after Syoma is done with his “day job” he then gets to have fun with his fox friend. Kronotsky Nature Reserve, Kamchatka is one of Russia’s oldest wildlife reserves, founded under Stalin in 1934. With it’s harsh climate and volcanoes and geysers, it is described as the Land of Fire and Ice.
Syoma is just one of its inhabitants but does a great job. Syoma, as a kitten was actually stolen in the claws of a white night bird but luckily returned safely. A year later Syoma has made friends with the fox amongst other local animals.
Many consider Syoma to be one of the bravest wild cats in the world. Can you blame them? See more pics of Syoma at Siberian Times.
