After seeing her long lost cat Tootsie’s photo online after visiting an adoption event on Facebook, Sheriden Hansen couldn’t help but be overcome with emotion. The poor woman couldn’t stop crying, she admits – and understandably!
Hansen’s beloved cat went missing five years ago and since then has been one of hundreds of pets looking for homes at last weekend’s No-Kill Utah Adoption Weekend that took place in Salt Lake City, UT. It eventually came to light that Tootsie disappeared at a time when Ms. Hansen’s neighbor happened to be trapping neighborhood pets that entered his backyard and he would drop the animals off elsewhere. Ms. Hansen searched high and low for her missing cat and kept in contact with shelters just in case her Tootsie turned up as a stray, but sadly, there were no leads.
When Ms. Hansen spotted Tootsie’s photo online, she was not still actively searching for her – but that isn’t to say the woman had completely given up hope of finding her! Persistence paid off for her as she went through the adoptable pet photos; when she got to the 625th pet listed for adoption at the event, it was none other than Tootsie!
Ms. Hansen and her missing cat were finally reunited this Saturday at the adoption event. The cat was most recently at a West Valley shelter but it was obvious she was someone’s pet before that – she had been declawed at some point during the years that she was missing. Tootsie is now with her rightful owner and it’s like she never left!
