The Woman who Married her 2 Cats Tells Her Story

Woman and cats

Ten years ago, Barbarella Buchner, the woman who married her cats, made the headlines around the globe. Her action of marrying her two cats, Lugosi and Spider, was considered a bizarre one by many people. After ten years, she is now back in the spotlight with her story.

The 48-year-old Buchner is originally from London, UK and presently residing in Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands. She says: “My two cats are my soul mates. They’re the love of my life.”

She explained that before when she had a human relationship with a man, her man would come home and would argue over something, or her man want to talk when she don’t want to talk. But her cats, Lugosi and Spider are different and she is definitely happily married to the felines. In fact, she said: “I’m not alone, I have my cats now. I have no regrets and I don’t care what people say.”

After her and her boyfriend of seven years broke up, Buchner married her two cats that were 4 years old at the time. She obtained a certificate of their marriage from Marry Your

She described her break-up with her ex-boyfriend “so painful”. She cried for weeks following their break-up but her cats helped her get through the process. She admitted crying into the cats’ fur. Lugosi and Spider were always with her on the sofa and that brought the calmness that she needed.

“I have loved and lived with a couple of partners before but I realized that my love for my fur babies is so much deeper than anything I have felt for a human.”

Since she was just a young girl, Ms. Buchner has always love cats. Now she considered herself somewhat a “cat lady”, because of her cat themed accessories such as shoes, and knick knacks displayed inside her house. She clearly stated that her relationship with her cats is not partnership but a companionship one, in which no sex is involved. She also explained that there is nothing perverse or disgusting about her union with the kitties.

“Obviously I don’t have sex with my cats. It’s just pure, spiritual unconditional love on both sides, as simple as that. As long as I’m happy with it, I don’t care.”

Ms. Buchner also shared that she never really wanted to get married with a human partner because she is not sure if she has what it takes to be a housewife. In fact, she said that she is not built to clean up after a man like other women. But she sure doesn’t mind to clean up after her cats and will do anything for them including taking out a loan if ever they need a surgery, and that there’s no limit to what she would do for the felines. She even confessed that in case of a tsunami or volcano eruption, she wouldn’t evacuate without her beloved felines if someone would tell her to leave without them.

Lugosi and Spider have been her companions for 14 years, which is the longest relationship she ever had.
