20 Reasons You Should Be Thankful for Your Cat

Reasons we are thankful for our cats

Cats are a million times more amazing than many people like to give them credit for being, but we know that they are super cool. They’re relaxed, happy, and they never really bother you (unless it’s 3 am and they’re ready to play, but who is counting?). Cats are very great animals to have around the house, especially when you consider that being a pet owner is a job that will help you live longer (I promise that’s a medical fact and not something I made up). With that said, it’s the holidays and we feel a little emotional and overcome with joy, so we’re just saying a few quick little prayers of thanks for our cats; read on to find out why you should also be thankful for your cat.

They’re Cuddly

Cats are cuddly and there is everything right about that. Cats are the sweetest and the most amazing little creatures around because they are so cuddly. They want to be close to you and they want to show you the love that they have for you, and they don’t mind when you hold them a bit too long.

They’re Not Picky

That’s not entirely true; cats are kind of picky. However, they’re not too picky that they don’t want to spend some quality time with you, and they certainly do not mind if you buy a different type of food, if you lose your job or if you grow a very unflattering moustache. Cats just are not that picky.

They’re Always There

If there is one thing we could all show a little thanks for in regards to our cats, it is the fact that they are always there for us. They are there at the end of a long day. They are there at the end of a less than amazing day. They are there for us on the best days of our lives. They are not, at all, fair weather friends.

They’re Playful

We all need a little playfulness in our lives, and that’s something that cats bring to the table. They are animals that have a lot of enjoyment for life, and they love to share that with their humans. What that means for you is that you’re going to get a lot more enjoyment out of life. That is a good thing.

They Don’t Judge

If we all learned one lesson in life the difficult way, it’s that some people are not here for you for the right reasons. Some people just sit around waiting for you to fail so that they can take pleasure in that. Cats, however, are not like they. They’re not here to judge you. They don’t care what you do, how you do it or what it means so long as they are cared for.

They Give You that Look

You know the look we are talking about; the one in the photo. It’s the look that says, “What you are doing is not all right,” and sometimes it really makes us think, right? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve put down the spoon and stayed out of the cookie dough because my cat gave me that look. My waistline thanks him.

They Love Unconditionally

What’s love got to do with it? How about everything? Cats love without condition, and that’s not often something you find in anyone but pets. Even many humans only love us on the condition that we are this or we are that. It’s something we can’t change, and it’s something we don’t have to with our cats.

Cats Relax You

It’s a true story; cats are very relaxing and can cause you to have a lot less stress in your life. If you think that you could do with less stress in your life, you’re probably right. Less stress means a healthier immune system, which means a healthier and more quality life. That’s a lot of responsibility on the shoulders of a little cat.

Cats are Good Listeners

There are times when we all want someone to listen to us, and we don’t want them to respond. Cats don’t respond; they just listen, they don’t try to fix things and we feel much better for it. That’s something to be very thankful for this season. Your cat is pretty awesome.

Cats Save Lives

Okay, so maybe that’s a bit dramatic, but it’s true. Your cat might have just saved your life. He might keep you healthy, lower your stress level and he might provide you with the companionship you need in a time when your life feels as if it has been turned upside down. That is nothing to take lightly, either.

Cats Keep Bugs Away

I hate spiders. I also hate snakes. I also hate all things that are small (yet so big) and creepy crawly. The good news is that our cats will keep those things away from us, our house and anything else we don’t want spiders or snakes in. They’re really good at that, and that’s worthwhile.

Cats are Cute

Really, what else is more important than how stinking adorable a kitten really is? There is nothing so sweet that might make you smile quite like a kitten, and that is going to boost your mood in a way that few other things will. Go ahead and be thankful.

Cats are Protective

Most people assume that it’s dogs that are the protective animals, and they’re partially correct. Dogs are very protective, but so are cats. They love their families and they’re not about to let anyone or anything harm them or your kids, so that’s something to appreciate.

They Keep the Floor Clean

Listen, I have four kids and that includes a set of one and-a-half year-old twins who still dine in their high chairs. What this means for me is that there is a lot of food on the floor during meal time, and the cat really does a stellar job of cleaning up a lot of that mess for me. I’m appreciative, I promise.

Cats Make You Feel Good

I will never forget how good we felt after we adopted our cat who was saved from a wire outside a jail somewhere and brought to our city for care. I felt like the best person in the world giving him a home and saving his life, and that’s something I’m thankful for.

Cats are Funny

When we choose our friends, we like the funny ones, right? I know I do. I love a funny person with a sense of humor, and I also love that cats have a wonderful sense of humor, as well. I love that they are so much fun and that they do silly things that keep me laughing.

Cats can Learn Tricks

Some people are not dog people, but they’d love to teach their cat some tricks. Some cats will do them and that is something infinitely cool. We can all be thankful and grateful that our cats aren’t just for decoration and show, right?

Cats Use a Litter Box

The good news about cats is that they are litter box users. You never have to worry about rushing home at the end of the day to walk the cat or take the cat out before you run errands or enjoy happy hour. That’s a nice, stress-free and relaxing realization, and something to be very thankful for.

Cats Get Along with Other Animals

If you have other animals in the house, you’ll be happy to know that most cats get along well with other animals. This is especially true if your kitten was raised around other animals and not an adult cat brought in from a shelter. Either way, though, most cats love other animals.

They’re Great Companions

It’s impossible to feel alone when you have a cat. You have someone with which you can cuddle and relax, someone that is happy to see you at the end of the day, and someone to join you while you eat, even if he is sitting on the floor hoping you turn around long enough for him to help himself to your dinner.
