4-Week-Old Bobcat Is Scorched In A Barn Fire, 2 Years Later He Makes A Friend

As adorable as they may be, not all cats can be domesticated. Despite the best intentions of the individuals who attempt to house wildcats, forcing these felines to live as pets can be quite damaging. Sandstone, Minnesota’s Wildcat Sanctuary can attest to the need for trained professionals to care for such animals.

This sanctuary came to the rescue of a young bobcat roughly two years ago who had suffered burns due to a barn fire. Although the poor cat recovered well from its injuries, it still retains some sensitivity to light. In addition, it has spent its life in the sanctuary, unfit to be returned to the wild. Just like humans, these animals can become lonely and dispirited in the absence of company. While the staff at the sanctuary provided as much love and care as possible, there was simply no substitute for another bobcat.

As fate would have it, the sanctuary ended up taking in another bobcat. This cat lived with a family who believed they could raise it just like any other cat. Naturally, this was not the case. The bobcat eventually bit one of the family members, which finally taught them that wildcats do not belong in their house. It was soon taken in by the Wildcat Sanctuary, a decision that proved beneficial for all involved.

While the most important result of taking the bobcat in is that the staff could ensure its health and safety, it also served to bring two lonely animals together. The bobcats now have a friend and are enjoying their new life together. They have not yet been named, although the sanctuary is looking for names which will embody their inspiring courage and perseverance.

Having a pet can be a life-changing experience; however, it is important to know which animals thrive in homes and which suffer. Sometimes, loving an animal means allowing it to live freely. In cases where wildcats require human supervision, it is important to cede this responsibility to professionals. This, however, does not mean that we cannot look to these cats to brighten our days. Although they cannot be kept in our homes, we can always look to stories such as the union of these two bobcats to warm our hearts.
