Cat Earns Receptionist Job After Waiting 400 Days to Be Adopted

Champas, a scruffy looking tom cat, had been waiting for over 400 days to get his forever home and when it wasn’t happening at the shelter where he had been living, the Animal Welfare League NSW in Australia, decided to take different measures to help him find a home. They gave Champas a job that would gain him attention.

Champas essentially became the shelter’s new secretary. After being in the shelter since December of 2015, they devised a plan. They let him sit on the desk at the entrance of the shelter and gave him signs to wear that described his personality and posting other tidbits of info about his credentials.

Some of the signs read: “Office cat with impeccable credentials”, and, “I like romantic naps on your paperwork, long sniffs of your petty cash, and curling up on your stuff.” He looked so poised wearing his signs, as if he knew what his job was, and that was to find himself a new owner who would take him home and love him.

It was a cute idea that soon got people’s attention. They were essentially advertising him as a single white male looking for love. After all, isn’t that what he was really doing? The shelter said their little campaign worked and helped him to come out of his shell.

It wasn’t long until, a man named Nathan who is a long term resident of Kemps Creek, took an interest and took him home. He sent a picture of Champas on a desk and sent a note to let people know what happened to the little tom cat who finally found his forever home, ‘To everyone who is wondering what happened to Champas the long term resident of Kemps Creek – he came home with me today, and after biting my hand, went straight to sleep.’

Looks like a little creativity by the staff at the Animal Welfare League NSW, was a big success. Maybe the next cat who has trouble getting their new home, will be transitioned into a secretarial position, too, to help find them a new home.
