New Jersey Cat Missing for 2 1/2 years Reunited with Family

It’s heartbreaking when a family pet goes missing, and even worse when there’s no sign of them for weeks, months, or even years. The Zelitsky family of Wanaque, New Jersey lost their brown tabby, Jimmy in 2014 and had no idea where he’d gone to. Nearly two and a half years later however, Jimmy returned.
When Jimmy the cat went missing it wasn’t too unusual, as his owners stated Jimmy liked to spend a lot of time outside. On the night that he went missing however Jimmy failed to return home when his owners called. Considering he was never that far out of earshot, Jimmy’s absence was immediately noticed. The Zelitsky’s, Jimmy’s owners, put up posters and searched the neighborhood but couldn’t find any trace of the tabby.
Thankfully Jimmy was found and taken to the West Milford Animal Shelter Society nearly ten miles from the Ziletsky’s home. Having been found during the blizzard that hit in March, Jimmy was immediately taken to the shelter where he was cared for and watched over. Not long after this a friend of the Zelitsky’s posted a picture of Jimmy on Facebook, informing the family that their cat had been found. It was a time to be thankful when Jimmy was reunited with his family, rubbing up against them and nipping at them when they rubbed his belly. Thankfully the playful antics of the tabby left no doubt in Mrs. Zelitsky’s mind that this was in fact her cat. In fact when Jimmy saw Mr. Zelitsky he even gave the man his customary, affectionate head butt, which was gladly received.
Humane shelters are a big help to those in need and are very instrumental in bringing families and their animals back together, or finding a pet a good home where they can be cared for. In the case of Jimmy and the Zelitsky’s it was a happy reunion that both the family and the pet obviously enjoyed.
