Bronsoncat: The 33 lb Instagram Star Trying to Lose Weight

What should you do when you have a cat that weighs a whopping 33 pounds? If you’re like the owners of Bronson the cat, you start working to get his weight down but you also give him his own Instagram account. It just so happens that people all over the globe have fallen in love with Bronson the cat. This probably doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that he’s pleasantly plump, but instead with his overall demeanor. As cats go, he’s pretty friendly and he likes to be around his people and the other two cats in the house. It certainly doesn’t hurt anything that he’s got more than enough good looks to go around which only improve on a daily basis as he sheds all that extra weight.

Perhaps the real reason that so many people are interested in Bronson’s story is because it’s worth knowing something about. Like so many other animals, he was found in a shelter, looking for someone that would give him a forever home. Very little was known by the shelter workers when it came to his history. All they really knew for sure was that his previous owner had died and he had subsequently been surrendered at the shelter. Imagine how stressful this must have been for Bronson. When he was surrendered, he was already over 30 pounds. This led shelter staff to speculate that he might have been the pet of someone who was unable to feed or exercise him properly, either due to age or other physical limitations.

Either way, staff at the shelter were concerned that his excessive weight would make it difficult for him to be adopted out. After all, a lot of people who come to the shelter looking for animals are searching for something very specific and it doesn’t usually involve an animal that’s going to need a great deal of rehabilitation in order to reach a better state of health.

Fortunately, that didn’t stop his owners from adopting him. They were able to see past the extra pounds in order to see Bronson for who he truly is, complete with all his charm. It doesn’t hurt that they have plenty of experience when it comes to cat ownership, so they knew what needed to be done right away in order to ensure that Bronson lives a long and healthy life. At the end of the day, they made the decision to adopt him and bring him home to their other two cats. As far as the weight problem goes, Bronson is now on a strict diet and an exercise program that is detailed daily on his Instagram account. Thousands of people across the world follow him, tracking his progress along the way. His new owners are happy to spend time working with him in order to give him suitable physical activity, gradually increasing both the duration and complexity of that activity as he sheds pounds and increases his stamina.

There is no doubt that Bronson still has a long way to go when it comes to getting fit. Considering the fact that he weighed almost three times as much as a normal cat his size should weigh when he was adopted, it’s understandable that this is something that’s going to take time. With that being said, Bronson and his new parents find small successes on a daily basis and each success is celebrated. Today, Bronson is a much happier cat that loves to socialize not only with his owners, but also with the other two cats in the house. As he continues on his weight loss journey, he develops more and more fans along the way through Instagram. You might even say that this has become one of the most inspirational animal stories to come along in recent history.

It’s hard to say exactly what it is about Bronson that so many people are attracted to. Without a doubt, he has a cute face that easily lends itself to creating those special moments where people would become endeared to him, but it seems to be more than that. In reality, it’s probably a combination of his journey back to health and the fact that he was rescued from a shelter that has made him something of an Internet celebrity. Whatever it is, he has captured the hearts and minds of people that are constantly watching him and routing for him to be as happy and healthy as possible, both now and in the future.
