You’ve heard of the Fox and the Hound story, well what about the Cat and the Dog? Sounds unlikely huh? Well, believe it or not, this is an incredible story of how a cat and a puppy became the best of friends. They are inseperable and it is quite an astounding story.
Not very long ago, Gertrude, a 2 year old cat was attacked by a group of stray dogs in Mexico, ripping her side open and killing all of the kittens that were at that point inside her. Cat attacks are fairly common but this cat attack was particularly brutal. Thankfully she was found soon after the incident by a local lady who rushed her to the local vet clinic run by Compassion Without Borders, which usually focuses on helping stray dogs in Mexico. However, they were determined to help Gertrude out. She was in a very bad way and required some quite major surgery. It was very sad that her kittens did not survive but it was a small miracle that she survived herself. She began her recovery and nobody thought more about it, other than making sure she became stronger each day.
Not long after this incident a very cute puppy, called Clementine, arrived at the centre. She had been abandoned at the clinic by an owner who very sadly did not return. Further, it was not just her but her 3 siblings. They were very young and tiny and it did them no favours to be away from their mother. Unfortunately, and very sadly, Clementine was the only one among them to survive.
This is when something very strange happened.
The center manager was carrying Clementine through the center when Gertrude suddenly perked up and clawed at her cage. This got the team thinking and they arranged for the two animals to meet. Amazingly they hit it off straight away, and Gertrude absolutely adored the puppy. Her mothering instinct kicked in and she worked hard to keep Clementine warm and groomed her. Gertrud became distressed whenever the two of them were separated and it was clear that this was the start of a very special inter-species relationship. They travel together and sleep together and Gertrude puts up with everything thrown her way by the puppy.
They have now been moved to the United States, California to be precise, to find their forever home. So they don’t need to be separated, Compassion Without Borders are looking for someone to take them both in. It is a bit of an unusual request, but this is no normal situation. An amazing story and we all hope that it continues with a loving owner who loves the fact that these two creatures love each other.
