10. Gentle Giants Maine Coons – Fort Montgomery, NY

Gentle Giants Maine Coons is one of the more recently-established names on this list. Its story is a common one. Essentially, the people behind the cattery became fascinated with Maine Coons, so much so that they decided to start breeding the cats. Interested individuals should include it on their list of catteries to check out. Despite this, they should remember that it is harder to develop an informed opinion of more recently-established catteries because of the relative lack of information.

9. Catskill Mountain Maine Coons – Greenville, NY

A lot of Maine Coon breeders run smaller operations. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing. After all, pumping out as many kittens as possible is the kind of thing one expects of kitten mills rather than legitimate cat breeders. The latter tend to breed a smaller number of kittens every year so they can give each one the attention it needs to thrive. Catskill Mountain Maine Coons is an excellent example of small, home-based operations. Conveniently, being raised in a home environment makes it much easier for its cats to adjust to new households.
